As often happens the first report in the Times was correct in some details only. The matter is settled, and rather technical in nature afaik. Good to see Tom paid the costs and did not owe for the water. It’s unfortunate no one including myself thought to note that cities do sell water to construction companies vie permits and fees. The hydrants are where the water is picked up by the trucks.

“Mr. Selleck did not receive any notifications prior to last week stating that he was acting outside of regulations decreed by the county,” Singer said in the statement. “Mr. Selleck previously paid for all the water that he utilized, which the Calleguas Municipal Water District acknowledged had not been stolen.”

The statement from Selleck’s attorney contradicts the allegations made by the water district.

The district said it sent identical cease-and-desist letters to Selleck’s address in Hidden Valley and to another address in Century City, warning him that the water deliveries were illegal.

The water from the fire hydrant described in the complaint was paid for by a Thousand Oaks construction company, according to public records. It’s unclear if Selleck, a contractor or employee paid the construction company or another source for the water.
